CRIME SCENE: Toronto man charged after shots fired last month in York

A 30-year-old Toronto man is facing gun and drug charges after a firearm was discharged in the York area.

Toronto Police said that officers responded to a person with a gun call April 24 in the Weston Rd.-Jane St. area, where the accused allegedly discharged a firearm into the air before fleeing.

Police identified a suspect and arrested him April 29, allegedly seizing a loaded 9mm handgun. Search warrants were then executed at “addresses associated with the accused,” police said, with cash and a “large amount” of controlled substances seized.

Jamar Chambers has been charged with multiple offences, including discharging a restricted or prohibited firearm, possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order and possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking.

BRAMPTON MEN CUFFED IN AUTO THEFT PROBE

Two Brampton men have been charged in connection with a vehicle theft reported to police last fall.

Peel Regional Police said officers responded to a robbery call on Oct. 17, 2024, in the McLaughlin Rd.-Charolais Blvd. area of Brampton after the victim was approached by “several” males who demanded the keys to his vehicle.

Police said the victim complied before the suspects took the vehicle and fled. The vehicle has since been recovered.

Jatin Kumar, 21, has been charged with robbery, while Safaldeep Singh, 21, has been charged with uttering threats.
