CRIME SCENE: Toronto woman, male youth charged in carjacking, robbery probe

A 26-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy from Toronto are facing charges after a carjacking and retail robbery probe in the south Etobicoke and Markland Woods neighbhourhoods.

— Officers responded on April 11 at 8:16 a.m. to a call for a person with a gun in the Burnhamthorpe Rd.-Renforth Dr. area after a male entered a store and began placing items into a shopping basket.

The suspect requested to see a bottle of cologne in a locked display case and when it was unlocked allegedly grabbed several bottles before producing a handgun and waving it around as he fled.

— On April 17 at 5:18 p.m., police responded to a vehicle theft call in the North Queen St.-Kipling Ave. area, where the victim was sitting in a parked vehicle when four suspects approached. One allegedly produced a handgun and pointed it at the victim while demanding their vehicle.

The suspects fled in the victim’s vehicle.

Then at about 10:55 p.m., Halton Regional Police responded to a collision in the Lake Shore Rd. W.-Bronte Rd. area, where officers found the stolen vehicle and took a suspect into custody.

An unidentified woman was charged with robbery with a firearm, theft of a motor vehicle with violence and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

— On April 18 at 12:26 a.m., police responded to a vehicle theft in the Lake Shore-Spadina Ave. area, where a taxi driver picked up a male passenger and an argument ensued about payment.

The suspect then exited and allegedly forced the victim out of the driver’s seat before fleeing with the vehicle.

— On April 21 at 2:29 a.m., police responded to a call for unknown trouble in the Bloor St. W.-Islington Ave. area, where the victim was walking to their vehicle when a lone male suspect allegedly approached, produced a handgun and demanded their keys.

The victim turned over the keys and the suspect allegedly fled in the vehicle.

— On April 22, police responded to another call for a vehicle theft in the Lake Shore-Royal York Rd. area, where the victim was walking to their vehicle when a lone male suspect allegedly approached, produced a knife and a handgun and forced entry into the vehicle before fleeing in it.

— On Wednesday at 2:50 p.m., police responded to another vehicle theft call in the Burnhamthorpe-Mill Rd. area, where a lone male suspect approached the victim as they exited their vehicle, allegedly grabbed their arm and demanded the keys. The suspect allegedly produced a handgun and took the keys before fleeing in the vehicle.

A male youth was arrested Friday and charged with multiple offences including robbery with a firearm, theft of a motor vehicle with violence, possession of an imitation weapon, possession of property obtained by crime, failure to comply with a release order and disobeying a court order.

Police said all of the stolen vehicles were recovered.

No further descriptions were provided for outstanding suspects.

4 SOUGHT FOR AJAX HOME INVASION

Four suspects are wanted following an armed home invasion in Ajax.

Durham Regional Police said officers responded Sunday at 2:25 a.m. to an armed home invasion in the Wilce-Sayor Drs. area. Cops said four males dressed in dark clothing broke into a home, at which point the homeowner confronted them and was assaulted. Another resident tried to help the homeowner and was struck with a firearm.

The suspects fled before police arrived.

One of the victims was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe this to be an isolated incident.

MAN SERIOUSLY ASSAULTED AT VAUGHAN PLAZA

Witnesses are being sought as police attempt to identify four suspects following a serious assault in a Vaughan plaza in March.

York Regional Police said officers responded on March 16 around 1 a.m. to an assault in progress in the Steeles Ave. W.-Pearce Rd. area.

Upon arrival, officers found a male victim with significant injuries. He was transported to a trauma centre and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said video from the area shows the victim being assaulted by as many as four people. Investigators believe the victim and suspects attended the same event at a bar in the plaza.

The first suspect is an East Indian male who was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with “Jordan” written on the front and black pants.

No descriptions were available for the other suspects.

MISSISSAUGA MAN CHARGED AFTER SHOTS FIRED

A 29-year-old Mississauga man has been charged following a shooting at an industrial yard in Vaughan last June.

York Regional Police said officers responded on June 1, 2024, to a weapons call in the Hwys. 27-407 area.

Cops said the complainant showed up at work and found the windows of the main door shattered. Meanwhile, multiple vehicles within the lot also appeared to have been struck by bullets.

Police said security footage at the premises shows a man entering on foot and discharging a firearm toward the front doors.

“As the man flees, he fires multiple times at the parked vehicles within the lot,” police said in a news release. “Fortunately, there were no injuries as the premises and vehicles were unoccupied at the time.”

Brandon Morgan was charged Friday with reckless discharge of a firearm, mischief to property over $5,000 and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.
