OPP told the Sun that at 2 a.m. Sunday, a group of stunt drivers shut down Highway 401 at Mississauga Rd.
Then at 3:20 a.m. on Sunday, a group of stunt drivers shut down the highway at Islington Ave.
It isn’t clear if the same drivers were involved in both incidents.
“The participants dispersed when police arrived and no charges were laid,” Sgt. Ted Dongelmans said.
“Our crime unit is investigating both. The OPP takes traffic safety seriously.”
During the incidents, vehicles were spinning out of control, and there were lasers, fireworks and smoke.
People can be seen getting out of vehicles and walking on the highway as a huge traffic jam formed.
Commenters on social media condemned the activity, with one asking what would happen if there was a medical emergency and another questioning how such illegal stupidity like this can exist.
