Man, woman found dead at east-end apartment building

A man and a woman were found dead at an east-end apartment building Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to 544 Birchmount Rd. — south of St. Clair Ave. E. — around 2:15 p.m., Const. Caroline de Kloet told the Toronto Sun.

The woman’s body was found in an eighth-floor apartment after the man was located on the sidewalk just outside the building’s front entrance.

Det. Robert Choe told media outside the building he was unable to clarify the relationship between the woman, 30, and the man, 40.

Choe added detectives weren’t looking for any suspects.

Both victims suffered “significant trauma,” Choe said.

Witnesses say the deceased man appeared to have fallen from the apartment’s balcony, but that hasn’t been confirmed by investigators.

Both the Toronto Police forensic identification team and detectives with the homicide squad arrived shortly after 5 p.m., erecting a large black tent around the body to protect the scene.

The city recorded the year’s first homicide on Sunday when 36-year-old Ian Dyer was fatally stabbed in an apartment in the Danforth Rd.-Midland Ave. area.

Police arrested 34-year-old Leigh Ming Tuesday, charging him with first-degree murder.
