In a statement released Thursday, Amb. Iddo Moed called on Canada to show leadership and work towards real peace in the Middle East in the wake of the killings, which saw eight Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid workers killed by Hamas terrorists.
“These workers weren’t soldiers, they were trying to feed people,” Moed said in his statement.
“One should expect humanitarian aid to relieve suffering — not to be hijacked by terrorists and turned into a weapon of war. This horrific attack underscores why protecting aid from Hamas’s systematic exploitation isn’t optional, it’s essential.”
Hamas regularly diverts Israeli aid and food shipments coming into Gaza, warehousing and selling the supplies to fund their terror campaign while Gazan men, women and children starve.

On May 29, hungry Palestinians stormed a food warehouse in Deir Al-Balah that was full of food and supplies meant to feed civilians.
The US-backed GHF, meant to act as a means to distributing aid outside of UN control, was denounced by Hamas, labelling them “agents of occupation” and warning civilians that anybody caught accepting food from them “would pay the price.”
The GHF began its aid program on May 26.
“For months, Israel has worked with international partners to create new humanitarian routes that bypass Hamas control and ensure food, medicine, and essential supplies reach civilians directly,” Moed said.

“These efforts have been necessary because, according to newly revealed IDF intelligence, Hamas has diverted up to 25% of shipments for its fighters, resold restricted goods at inflated prices, extorted ‘protection fees’ from local businesses, and manipulated aid channels to fund terrorism.”
While terrorists murder aid workers, Canada’s silence isn’t neutrality, the ambassador said, it’s complicity.
From Lester B. Pearson’s vision for peacekeeping to today’s G7 commitments, Canada’s voice carries moral weight,” he said.
“We call on Canada to step up — not just in words, but through actions that defend human dignity, confront terror, and support genuine peace for all people of the region — Jews, Arabs, Christians, Druze, and others.”
