York Regional Police have charged five men after an armed home invasion in Vaughan — and three of the accused had previous weapons prohibition orders.
On Dec. 24, 2023, at 1:52 a.m., police were called to a home invasion in progress in the area of Forest Dr. and Harmonia Cres.
Three masked suspects broke into the home and assaulted the occupants at gunpoint while demanding money.
At the scene, police said they found three suspects and during the interaction, an officer discharged their firearm several times. One suspect was taken into custody and two fled. A loaded firearm was dropped by a suspect and seized.
No one was seriously injured and the Special Investigations Unit invoked its mandate.
A black sedan fled the area as police approached the residence and it was later learned that the vehicle was stolen during an armed carjacking in Calgary on Nov. 10, 2023.
Four other suspects were identified and charged with 37 criminal offences, while an additional firearm, a sawed-off shotgun, was seized, police said.
Police have charged Lorrin Wolfe, 33, of Onion Lake First Nation, Sask.; Ali Mohammed, 26, of Toronto; Kesworth Bassaragh, 32, of Toronto; Jamie Lee Tootoosis, 36, of Onion Lake First Nation, Sask.; and Elcee Jimmy, 35, of Thunderchild First Nation, Sask.
At the time of the home invasion, Wolfe was wanted by several police agencies in Western Canada for unrelated criminal offences and had three weapons prohibition orders. Bassaragh was on parole and had two weapons prohibition orders. Tootoosis also had two weapons prohibition orders.
Police released photos of the accused because they believe they are members of a larger criminal network and may only be known by their street names.
