Woman in her late 80s stabbed in Scarborough: Cops

A woman in her late 80s is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after police said she was stabbed Friday afternoon in Scarborough.

Toronto Police said a female suspect under the age of 18 is in custody.

Police said officers responded to reports of a woman stabbed inside a residence at approximately 1:40 p.m. in the Sheppard Ave. E. and McCowan Rd. area.

“When officers responded, they found a victim with significant injuries,” Acting Insp. Brian Maslowski said at the scene hours later.

“That victim was transported by paramedics to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.”

Maslowski said officers located and arrested the suspect a short distance away without incident. No other suspects are being sought.

“Our thoughts go out to the family of this victim,” Maslowski added.

While Maslowski said the victim and suspect lived at the same residence, he declined to discuss what their relationship is to each other.

The suspect can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
