Officers found Mohamed Doumbouya, 16, of Toronto, shot inside an apartment unit.

While life-saving measures were performed, he died at the scene, becoming Toronto’s 46th homicide of 2024.

The Toronto Sun’s Jack Boland reported that blood could be seen in the hours after the shooting on a balcony railing in two areas.

On Thursday police said two male youths, aged 16 and 17, had been arrested and charged with murder. Their names were not released as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

A woman named Laura, who said she was the tenant of the unit, told Boland she’d returned to her apartment earlier Monday and “didn’t know any of this had happened.

“Well, this is crazy. I mean, I try to help everybody. This is all I try to do is help everybody,” she said.

When asked if people were partying inside her apartment on Sunday night before the shooting, she said, “I don’t think so.”

She told Boland she used to live in Georgia and has been living at the apartment for the last four years since moving to Canada.

She was visibly upset before adding, “I let young kids come in. I have to help them out, you know?”
