Cops release photos of vehicle allegedly connected to JahVai Roy's slaying

More than a week after the “disgusting” slaying of an eight-year-old boy in North York, cops have alerted the public of a white sedan allegedly linked to the case.

Toronto Police provided an update on the slaying of JahVai Roy, who was killed by a stray bullet that ripped through his family’s apartment unit while he was lying in bed at about midnight on Aug. 16 in the Martha Eaton Way-Trethewey Dr. area.

Police said they are now looking for what is believed to be a white Acura, which appears to be a sedan based on pictures released by cops.

“Anyone with information about the vehicle’s whereabouts is asked to contact investigators,” Const. Cindy Chung said in a statement to the media. “We are also asking for anyone who may have any video or dashcam (footage) from the area at the time of the incident to also contact investigators.”

The slaying of JahVai, who his mom described during a community vigil Thursday as an “energetic spirit” and a child who liked to cuddle and rub her back, shocked the city last week with a detective involved in the case calling it an “unimaginably tragic event.”

Paramedics said they had arrived on the scene that day to find a child who had been shot. The boy was transported in critical condition to a pediatric hospital before being pronounced dead, police said.

The Toronto Sun reported last week that multiple bullet holes could be seen fired through first- and second-floor apartment windows at the building.

“What’s happened here is a cowardly, disgusting act of violence and every resource available in the city is being allocated to this right now,” Det.-Sgt. Jason Davis told media on the day of the slaying.

Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw said he was “heartbroken by the tragic loss” and that “no family should endure this,” while vowing to spare no resource to crack the case.

Mayor Olivia Chow, meanwhile, called the shooting “reckless,” while adding that gun violence “must end in our city.”
