CRIME SCENE: Hate-motivated graffiti sparks investigation in Richmond Hill

Anti-Iranian graffiti was spray-painted on stores in a Richmond Hill plaza and at a bus terminal, according to York Regional Police.

Officers were called Saturday to a plaza in the Yonge St.-16th Ave. area after hate-related graffiti was spray-painted on the exterior walls of a grocery store and three other businesses.

Another incident was later reported at a bus terminal, near Yonge and Hwy. 7.

Police said they believe a lone male vandal is responsible for the graffiti.

Landlord accused of sexual assault

A landlord faces charges after a woman returning a key to a unit alleged she was sexually assaulted, according to York Regional Police.

A woman met a landlord at a condo in the Hwy. 7-Birchmount Rd. area to return a key.

The complainant alleged that she was touched in a sexual manner and prevented them from leaving the unit, said police, who added the woman got away without any injuries, said police.

Renkai Rex Kevin Lin, 47, of Toronto, was charged with sexual assault and forcible confinement.

Acupuncturist accused of sexual assault

A patient alleged they were sexually assaulted by an acupuncturist at a clinic in the Hwy. 7-Chalmers Rd. area, said York Regional Police.

On May 28, 2025, Heng Guang Shen, 57, of Richmond Hill, was charged with two counts of sexual assault in connection with the May 26 incident.

Assault in Oshawa

A thug pulled a knife and tried to stab someone walking the opposite way on a sidewalk in the northern part of Oshawa, said police.

Durham Regional Police said officers received reports at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday about an armed person near Simcoe St. and Winchester Rd.

A man was seen walking west on Danztore Path when he approached two people walking in the opposite direction. As they passed each other, the man pulled out a knife and tried to stab one of them, said police.

The suspect fled the area. No one was injured.

Police are asking anyone with video of the incident to come forward.
