“They actually started out here as urgent foster animals (in May 2021 for a year) so meaning their owner was looking for a temporary housing situation,” said THS spokesperson Hannah Sotropa.
“Sometimes what happens at the end of the urgent foster care program is that we assume ownership of the animal for a number of reasons. If we don’t hear from the owner or they decide that they aren’t in a position to care for the animal. we’ll assume ownership and adopt them out as typically we would. And so that was the case with these guys (in May 2022).”
Marvel is a black, short-haired, mix with piercing green eyes and Zoom Zoom is a brown and biege and black tabby with piercing blue eyes.

A 15-year-old bonded pair of male cats Marvel and Zoom Zoom are available for adoption at the Toronto Humane Society. This is Zoom Zoom. TORONTO HUMANE SOCIETY HANDOUT
“The two of them are practically like brothers because they have lived together for so long so they do everything from napping to playing to grooming together but don’t let their old age fool you,” said Sotropa.
“Marvel and Zoom Zoom are energetic and they’re very playful for senior kitties. They adore the laser pointer. They demonstrate strong hunting skills so they tune into their instincts by chasing balls and lawn toys. And they also like to spend their days relaxing at the top of their cat condo while just observing the room.”
“They are affectionate in their unique ways,” said Sotropa. “Zoom Zoom specifically likes to be pet but also likes to make biscuits (happily kneading the surface he’s standing on) and give head butts. And then Marvel will come to their person for pets on the head and neck as well but will politely tell you when he’s had enough. But they are a confident, social pair. They love their playtime. And they respond really well to enrichment so having an enriched environment, stimulating routine, positive reinforcement in their training will really help them thrive. And they’re just looking for that special someone to help them live their golden years in peace.”

In terms of any health concerns, Marvel is clinically obese so needs playtime and exercise to avoid any excessive weight on his joints and Zoom Zoom has allergic skin disease which can be managed with a hypoallergenic diet.
“But otherwise, they are ready and excited to find their forever home,” said Sotropa.

UPDATE: Agedashi & Shiitake, two bonded one-year-old male American rabbits, from last month’s Forever Friend column, are still available for adoption.
