Man in his 20s fatally shot in Ajax GO station parking lot

A man was gunned down in the Ajax GO station parking lot on Sunday night, becoming Durham Region’s fourth homicide of the year.

Acting Durham Regional Police Staff Sgt. Joanne McCabe told reporters at the scene Monday that cops were called to the location on Westney Rd. around 11:30 p.m.

“(They) located a male in his 20s suffering from gunshot wounds,” she said.  

He was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he died. No other information on the victim has been released.

Investigators believe the incident occurred between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. and are looking for at least one male suspect who fled the area on foot, she said.

“At this point, it’s believed to be an isolated and targeted incident,” McCabe added.

Since it could have been busy at the station at the time of the shooting, there is potential for witnesses.

“We’re asking if anyone saw anything suspicious, anything out of the ordinary, anything that they they we should know, to come forward.”

Investigators are also reviewing video surveillance video.

While service was continuing at the Ajax GO lot on Monday morning, commuters were told to expect some delays and some limitation on parking availability.
