“At some point in time, the rider was separated from the motorcycle,” acting Insp. Baheer Sarvanandan told reporters at the scene, explaining the rider ended up underneath a TTC bus in the northbound curb lane.

The bus was stationary at a transit stop at the time.

“The motorcycle still continued to – with the momentum – proceeded into the intersection and collided with another vehicle travelling eastbound,” Sarvanandan said.

Emergency responders performed life-saving measures and the man was rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital where he died, becoming the city’s 19th traffic fatality of the year.

“Speed was a factor,” Sarvanandan said, adding police had spoken to “a lot of witnesses.”

“Speed carried the motorcycle itself well over a couple of hundred metres,” he added.

Nobody on the bus was injured, but Sarvanandan said the TTC driver was “traumatized” by the ordeal.
