A New Method Driving School instructor was pulled over by OPP officer Sgt. Kerry Schmidt on Tuesday after he witnessed a vehicle attempt to make a U-turn onto the southbound lanes of Highway 410.
Ironically, the Brampton driving school’s website outlines the company’s second governing principle, a legal phrase which is “not knowing the law is not the excuse for breaking the law.”
“This is hilarious. I’m gonna have a little chat with this guy right here, let’s find out what’s going on,” Schmidt is heard joking in the video as he pulled up to the vehicle.
Schmidt asked the driving instructor to explain the illegal maneuver and why she would tell her student to do it.
“We have a test right now, so we’re running late so I said just pull over here and I would take the sign off and then I was actually gonna make a turn,” the instructor told Schmidt.

The pair was on their way for the student’s G licence test when traffic caused a delay, jeopardizing her shot at being on time.
The student explained she was just following instructions and said she “wasn’t sure what was going to happen.”
“It’s kind of embarrassing that this New Method of Driving Schools would give a new method which is actually illegal,” Schmidt said, adding, “I’m not trying to embarrass you but it’s just very disappointing.”
The driving instructor pleaded with Schmidt, reiterating they were going to be late for the drivers G licence test.
Schmidt wasn’t buying the excuses though, turning to show the backlog of traffic saying: “There’s thousands of people that are running late here as well.”
Instead of punishing the driver and the instructor, Schmidt used the incident as a teaching moment, saying: “I’m not gonna give you a ticket but I could give you a ticket.”

He then asked the instructor to educate her student in the method of reversing back onto a highway —which he provided oversight for.
The 19-year-old Brampton driving school’s website statedL “New Method Driving School is committed to training residents GTA/ PEEL region be safe and efficient drivers.”
The website also raves about their driver instructors’ experience, claiming: “Almost each of our 80 odd in-car driving instructors has thousands of hours experience of imparting in-car driving lessons.”
The Sun contacted New Method Driving School but they refused to comment.
