SIU probing Toronto Police shooting of man with knife in Cabbagetown

The 32-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is probing the Toronto Police-involved shooting of an armed man.

The watchdog says that around 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Toronto officers responded to the area of Carleton and Parliament Sts. “for a report of a man armed with a knife.”

Upon arriving, officers “became involved in an interacted with the 32-year-old man” and the SIU says a female officer discharged her firearm.

The man was struck and taken to hospital for treatment. His condition was not released.

The case has been assigned three SIU investigators and two forensic investigators, and one subject official and three witness officials have been designated.

The SIU is an independent government agency that investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
