York Regional Police say officers responded to nine incidents of “mischief to property” that resulted in damage to automated speed enforcement cameras between Jan. 11 and April 24.
“Investigators have charged one suspect in relation to one incident,” Const. James Dickson said in a statement Wednesday, explaining police continue to appeal for witnesses in relation to the remaining “open investigations.”
The incidents involve three speed enforcement cameras, one of which has been targeted six times, at the following locations:
– A camera on Peter Rupert Ave., near Dufferin St. and Rutherford Rd., was damaged around 2:10 a.m. on Jan. 11.

Toronto has experienced a similar problem with a speed enforcement camera on Parkside Dr. – in the city’s west end next to High Park – that has been damaged four times in recent months.
“Police are appealing to anyone with information or who witnessed any suspicious activity in the areas,” Dickson said, adding anyone with security camera or dashcam footage from around the time of the incidents is also urged to come forward.
