Toronto man on firearm prohibitions charged in break-in, second male sought

York cops say a firearm was recovered

A 27-year-old Toronto man faces 12 charges including three of possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order after a residential break and enter in King.

York Regional Police say on Oct. 22 around 4 p.m, officers responded to suspects breaking into a residence in the area of Paradise Valley Trail and Fairmont Ridge Trail.

Cops says when they arrived, the suspects attempted to flee by driving their grey 2023 Chevrolet Trailblazer into a police cruiser before striking multiple civilian vehicles.

The suspects then fled on foot. One persona was taken into custody a short time later and a police say that a firearm was recovered near the abandoned vehicle.

Jasanthan Kandiah is charged with break and enter with intent, dangerous operation, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a firearm knowing its serial number has been tampered with, possession of firearm without holding a licence, possession of a loaded Restricted firearm, possession of a prohibited device, unlawful possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, driving while under suspension, and three counts of possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order.

Cops are seeking public assistance to locate the outstanding suspect who is described as a brown male, about 5-foot-8 with short brown hair.

Investigators are also seeking any video surveillance or dashcam from the area around the time of the incident.
