Four people face a slew of charges after guns and drugs were allegedly seized from a Whitby home during a search that stemmed from a vehicle stop more than 200 km away in Kingston.
Ontario Provincial Police say a drug-trafficking investigation launched earlier this year in the Quinte area led to the arrests this week.
Officers from the OPP East Region Community Street Crime Unit, Belleville Police Service Emergency Response Team, Belleville Police Canine Unit and members of the OPP’s Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau stopped a car on the Hwy. 401 off-ramp at Division St. in Kington on Tuesday, the OPP said Wednesday.
“Officers arrested one person and seized more than 74 grams of suspected cocaine, a quantity of suspected fentanyl, over $300 in cash, as well as items typically associated with drug trafficking,” police said.
The man driving the vehicle was taken into custody.
A short time later, the OPP said members of their Community Street Crime Unit, assisted by their East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit and officers from the Prince Edward and Quinte West Detachments, executed a search warrant at a residence on Littlebeck Cr. – near Dundas St. W. and Hwy. 412 – in Whitby.
“Two people were arrested at the scene,” police said.
Officers allegedly seized two loaded handguns with over-capacity magazines, ammunition, more than 1,100 grams of suspected cocaine, more than two grams of suspected MDMA, more than five grams of fentanyl, more than $10,000 in cash, and also scales and multiple cellphones.
