WARMINGTON: Alleged teen Porsche thief gets bail in Peel, then detained by Toronto cops

She was granted bail. But she was only free for a second.

When a justice of the peace grants an accused bail, it’s no guarantee he or she will remain free, pending the outcome of their case.

Sarah Badshaw found this out on Monday.

The good news for the alleged Porsche thief is she was granted bail in a Brampton courtroom Monday.

But not so fast, Sarah!

After receiving bail, the 18-year-old was taken into custody by Toronto Police officers, who are conducting their own investigation into auto thefts in the GTA.

“The plan is she will be in court in a Toronto at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday,” said Peel Regional Deputy Chief Marc Andrews.

A second bail hearing is expected. This time, police say, for pending charges out of Toronto.

None of the allegations against her have been tested in court.

Toronto Police have so far not commented about their investigation but indicated they soon will. Toronto Police Const. Sinderela Chung told The Toronto Sun investigators, “have advised that they will provide an update by way of media release.”

This is expected to come Tuesday.

Badshaw, last week, was charged by Peel police with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to remain after an accident resulting in bodily harm and with driving without a licence.  Those charged by police are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.

But in the court of public opinion, there was a viral security video that has been seen the world over. It shows an SUV backing over a man, who suffered injuries, on the driveway of the victim’s Mississauga home.  He is healing from those wounds and is expected to recover.

Police had been looking for the young woman since the Sept. 6 incident was caught on a doorbell camera.

It shows a woman at the door of a home, saying she was “there for the Porsche,” and explaing she was waiting for her father to show up. It shows the owner of the vehicle being run over by the SUV as it was backed out of a driveway in the Winston Churchill Blvd.-Eglinton Ave. area.

After turning herself in Sept. 19, police in Peel said their counterparts in Toronto were also investigating people allegedly connected to the Mississauga incident. Police alleged there were accomplices to this auto theft – all of whom remain at large.

Badshaw spent the weekend in jail, but was granted bail in the Davis courthouse in Brampton.  Andrews said among the conditions she must comply with were not having “associations” with certain people.

This case is still under investigation and is very active at this time.

Peel police sources say Toronto cops transported Badshaw from the Brampton court to Toronto. It’s unclear if Badshaw, who on social media has an advertisement as a babysitter, will be given bail in Toronto Tuesday.

But what is clear is she was released from jail Monday – as short-lived as that may have been.
