Wheelchair-bound victim identified in deadly Lawrence Heights gun violence

Police have identified 31-year-old Yahya Ahmed-Mohamoud, of Toronto, as the wheelchair-bound victim fatally shot in an eruption of violence in Lawrence Heights earlier this week.

Toronto Police said five others were wounded outside a condo complex near Yorkdale Mall, at Varna Dr. and Ranee Ave.

Cops said three suspects approached a group of people, produced firearms and shot into the group before fleeing.

Multiple suspects remain outstanding.

Among those who suffered non-life-threatening injuries were a 19-year-old man, a 25-year-old man, an 18-year-old man, a 30-year-old woman and a 17-year-old youth.

The sixth person, shot multiple times, was identified on Friday as Ahmed-Mohamoud. He died in hospital on Tuesday night.

An image of the victim, who sources said was bound to a wheelchair after being injured in a previous shooting, has been released.

Several videos circulating on social media after the shooting, which some TV stations obtained, showed a chaotic scene with police and paramedics arriving on scene, while residents tried to save the lives of those shot.

The video also showed people who possibly knew the victims, getting into confrontations and pushing matches with officers.

Police said they believe the shooting was targeted.

It’s Toronto’s 13th homicide of 2025.
