Windsor police nab suspect accused of choking store employee for cigarettes

The Windsor Police Service has arrested and charged a 29-year-old man for allegedly choking a store employee for some cigarettes.

Windsor police officers responded to a report of a robbery in progress at a business in the 800 block of Wyandotte Street East shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Monday.

When law enforcement arrived, officers learned that the suspect had forced their way across the counter and choked the store employee while demanding cigarettes.

A brief struggle took place before the suspect stole cigarettes and fled the scene. The store employee sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Officers then reviewed the store’s video surveillance and quickly identified the suspect.

The 29-year-old man was located and arrested just before 11 p.m. around the area of Park Street West and Pelissier Street.

He has been charged with robbery.
