In the wake of last week’s arrest of two men in an apparently thwarted ISIS terror plot, the Tories are demanding an emergency sitting of the House public safety committee to investigate how the alleged star of an ISIS torture video managed to become a Canadian citizen.

In a Tuesday morning press conference outside of the House of Commons, Conservative House Leader Andrew Scheer said Canadians are owed answers on how the pair managed to enter Canada and gain citizenship.

“Evidence exists that the father was involved in a horrific torture attack in an ISIS video,” Scheer said..

“Shortly after the events in that video, this individual was admitted into Canada, and later was granted citizenship by the Trudeau government.”

Ahmed Fouad Mostafa Eldidi, 62, and his 26-year-old son Mostafa Eldidi were arrested last week in a Richmond Hill hotel room for what the RCMP allege was a plot to carry out a violent terror attack in Toronto.

The pair face nine charges, including conspiracy to commit murder on behalf or at the behest of a terror organization.

Officials have so far remained quiet on how the accused were allowed to enter Canada with a history of ISIS membership.

Scheer described the incident as a “colossal” failure of the federal government’s national security system.

“Canadians have a right to know what went wrong,” he said.

Tuesday’s press conference coincided with a letter to Liberal MP Ron McKinnon, chair of the House standing committee on public safety and national security, urging him to recall the committee for an emergency meeting.

At a press conference last week, RCMP Supt. James Parr declined to elaborate on the apparent plot, as details are subject to a publication ban.

The (plot) was in an advanced stages of planning,” Parr told reporters.

“I wouldn’t call it imminent, but it was close.”

Parr added the alleged attack, which he said was in its “advanced” stages when the pair were arrested, targeted an “unspecified” community in Toronto.

The pair next appear in court on Wednesday.
