That’s the heartbreaking question a seven-year-old boy asked after he was shot multiple times by a gunman who opened fire on his family’s Hamilton home Thursday night.
A neighbor told reporters he went outside after hearing gunshots ring out shortly before 8 p.m. and then rushed into the house on Gordon St. — near Gage St. N. and Barton St. E. — when he heard the boy’s mom screaming frantically.
The man, who lives next door, told CityNews that upon entering the home he saw the boy on the floor bleeding from wounds to his left hand and lower abdomen.
“When I put the pressure on he said, ‘That hurts,’ and I said, ‘I have to put a lot of pressure to keep you from bleeding,'” the still visibly shaken neighbor, identified only as Danny, said recounting the ordeal. “And he says, ‘OK, it’s hard to breathe.'”

Danny said he then did his best to reassure the boy he was going to be okay as the youngster asked several times, “Am I going to die?”
Hamilton Police say the boy suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital where he remains in stable condition.
It’s believed the gunman exited a white car on the street, headed to the back of the home on foot, then opened fire from the backyard into the home before fleeing in the vehicle — described as a four-door sedan, possibly a Kia.

“This is unacceptable,” Deputy Chief Frank Bergen told reporters at the scene. “This is a time when our community has to stop and understand what the proliferation of guns are doing in our community.”
“Let’s all of us start looking at what are the problems with guns and gangs and look at solutions together,” he urged.
In a statement released Friday, police said it’s believed the home was targeted but the boy was “an unintended victim.”
Police continue to hunt for the shooter who is described as a white man in his early 20s.
Police say officers have also been canvassing the area for evidence, reviewing security video and speaking to witnesses.
Anyone with information regarding this shooting is urged to call Det. Daryl Reid at 905-546-3825 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
