Joe Biden is no longer the odds-on favourite to be the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee in November’s U.S. election with the beleaguered president being surpassed by Vice-President Kamala Harris, according to odds distributed by online gambling company BetOnline.ag.

Biden, whose disastrous debate performance against former president and likely Republican nominee Donald Trump last month has supporters calling for him to step aside, now has the second-best odds to gain the Democratic nomination (+145), while Harris was ahead of him at -115.

That means you’d need to bet $115 to win $100 on a Harris nomination, while a $100 bet on Biden would net you $145.

“Today, BetOnline.ag made Kamala Harris the odds-on favourite for the nominee,” the company said in a news release. “Joe Biden’s chances have slipped and now the odds of him dropping out of the race before the Democratic National Convention imply that will happen.”

No other potential candidates are close to Harris and Biden, though, with Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (+1400), former first lady Michelle Obama (+1600) and California Gov. Gavin Newsom (+1800) rounding out the top five.

Trump, meanwhile, remains the favourite to not only claim the Republican nomination, but also become the next president. A second Trump presidency comes with odds of -185, while Harris was second (+325) and Biden third (+650), BetOnline.ag said.

“Donald Trump has been a constant as the favourite for president, but the democratic nominee odds are in a constant state of flux,” they said.

As for Trump’s running mate, which is expected to be announced in the coming days, two candidates stand out, according to the oddsmaker: North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum and Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance.

Burgum leads the way at +175 followed by Vance (+225), Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (+600), Trump’s former housing and urban development secretary Ben Carson (+800) and Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (+1000).

“Doug Burgum remains the favourite, but J.D. Vance is closing the gap,” BetOnline.ag said. “Marco Rubio’s odds have fallen immensely since Monday, now at 6/1.”

The oddsmaker, however, cautioned that odds are subject to change.
