Canadians are largely supportive of the Royal Family and have been excited by the notion that Meghan and Harry — and little Archie — are considering calling Canada their new home for at least part of the year.

First of all, Canadians aren’t all that keen on paying millions of dollars a year for Royal Family security costs.
We get that. But a conversation must be had.
Let’s face the facts: Members of the Royal Family need security protection. Do we want them to have to pony up for private security? Or should we volunteer our highly trained members of the RCMP who have experience in protective services?
We also get why Meghan and Harry want to spend more time in our great country: It’s a beautiful place with great people and — here’s the catch — we respect celebrities’ privacy. Or at least more so than the dogged royal paparazzi press in the U.K.
We like to know where celebs — and royals! — are eating, what they’re wearing and the expensive homes they’re buying. We give them their distance though.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex know all too well the perils of too much media. Harry tragically lost his mother Princess Diana to an automobile crash that happened as she was escaping the dogged paparazzi.
Diana’s sons had very little privacy growing up. Harry doesn’t want that for his family. Meghan doesn’t want that for her children.
Will Canada grant them a total reprieve from scrutiny though? Who are we kidding? Of course not. After all, let’s not forget we’re the country that has a leader sometimes known as PM Selfie.
