Re “Why the U.S., unlike Canada, rejects a national carbon tax” (Lorrie Goldstein, June 28): The United States’ multiple failed attempts to implement a national carbon tax proves nothing about the effectiveness of the policy itself, only the ineffectiveness of the United States government. Holding this up as proof of the carbon tax’s failings would be almost as silly as giving credit for the U.S.A.’s lower emissions numbers in 2020 to a policy which wasn’t even in existence yet (the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022). If you want to argue that tax credits for clean technologies and for the fossil fuel industry are more effective at reducing emissions than putting a price directly on carbon, then show us the numbers. Since those don’t exist yet, please stop speculating over nothing.

MORE DETAIL PLEASE
I have been a loyal Toronto Sun reader for decades and especially like your Sports section. However, your lack of coverage regarding the B.C. port workers strike is inexcusable. This strike is costing our great nation billions of dollars and the effects on our economy will be felt for months. Surely you can provide an update on the situation or just even a mention of it while deservedly criticizing our buffoon of a prime minister in multiple opinion pieces. Rather than tweeting an invitation to Taylor Swift, how about legislating these overpaid workers back to work? Their demands are outrageous, compared to all industries. I know the PM needs to do his job, but so should the Sun.

TRUDEAU SWIFTLY EMBARRASSES HIMSELF
Just when our prime minister couldn’t stoop to a new low, he does it again. Instead of caring about the country, Justin Trudeau tweets to Taylor Swift to add some concerts in Canada. Oops, I forgot who I’m talking about. My bad. Trudeau has never cared or even given a damn about the country. He’s just thinking of another photo op for himself with Swift. As for Taylor Swift, it is her decision on where she tours.
