Often electric vehicle (EV) subsidies are described as spending taxpayer money. As an EV owner, I understand the sentiment, but it lacks context. First, let me state that our EV did not qualify for, nor did we receive, subsidies. The subsidies given to the fossil fuel industry are difficult to track, unlike the public announcements on EV subsidies or investments, depending on one’s point of view. The definition of subsidies is even debated. In my opinion, let’s have a level playing field for all profit-seeking organizations. No funding in any form should be given to any for-profit organization unless the government is given a share in the profits just like any investor. When corporations get taxpayer money it’s because it is ‘necessary’ but when a human gets taxpayer money it is welfare or a handout. They are keeping us distracted by fueling fear, uncertainty, doubt and resentment towards EVs and renewable energy.

Ravi Gupta Thorndale, Ont.
(In an ideal world the government wouldn’t have to hand out subsidies or corporate welfare of any kind. But they are in the bad habit of picking winners and losers)
TRUDEAU FAILS AGAIN
Justin Trudeau invited the asylum seekers to Canada. The Canadian taxpayer is footing the bill whether it’s paid by Trudeau or the premier of Ontario! Trudeau sticks it to the Canadian taxpayer year after year after year.

(He is a failure to Canadians and these refugees who have come here looking for a better life)
WYNNE WAY
With Mayor Chow’s commitment to rename Dundas Street in Toronto, this street should be renamed Kathleen Wynne’s Way to honour our former premier’s steadfast determination to get her own way.

DO NOT FORGET
Justin Trudeau, with help from Jagmeet Singh, has destroyed our democracy. He is now a prime minister with a dictator’s power. He does just what he wants when he wants to do it. He goes off to other countries rather than staying home to help solve Canadian problems. He spends our money without a published plan — perhaps so he can look good to other leaders. There is nothing we can do to stop him. Thank you, Jagmeet Singh — we will not forget your part in this on election day.
Barry Roden Scarborough
(No, we should remember exactly the kind of government Singh has been propping up)
