Yimi Garcia’s return from a shoulder injury didn’t last long as fans of the Blue Jays long for the day when one of the club’s high-leverage arms can stay healthy.

If there is any good news to glean from Garcia’s return to the injured list, it involves his ankle and not to any area of his arm, which is pretty important given his status as a pitcher.

Prior to Saturday’s game against the visiting Los Angeles Angels, the Blue Jays announced Garcia had been placed on the 15-day IL because of a left ankle sprain.

After an extended absence, Garcia made his return when the New York Yankees were in town for a four-game series.

But following his appearance against the Yankees on Wednesday, Garcia slipped getting into the hot/cold tubs and injured his ankle. Not unexpectedly, an MRI is scheduled.

He entered the game and gave up a two-run moon shot to Aaron Judge that drew the Bronx Bombers even.

Garcia’s one-inning outing featured 34 pitches, a season-high for the right-hander.

He also issued two walks in a game the Jays ultimately won, 11-9.

Garcia’s return was viewed as a boon to the bullpen, a unit whose back end seemed to be set.

With Garcia back on the IL, the pen is in reset mode.

When the season began, Garcia was among baseball’s very best relievers, making 14 successive appearances without surrendering an earned run.

He now has been placed on the IL twice as the all-star break and as MLB’s July 31 trade deadline beckon.

Injuries aside, the Jays somehow find different ways to win as evidenced by their 4-3 victory in Friday night’s series-opening win over the Angels, a game decided in the 10th inning when Ernie Clement’s sac bunt led to an overthrow at first base.

Eric Lauer started for the Jays and gave the team six innings before he was relieved with two runners on base.

While he earned a no-decision, the fact is the Jays won their six straight game with Lauer on the mound.

In other developments, the game of wait-and-see continues with Andres Gimenez, who has gone from hitting cleanup to batting ninth to having his name in the leadoff spot.

Per manager John Schneider, the Jays’ starting second baseman is considered as day-to-day as the club awaits the results of an MRI taken Friday of Gimenez’s ankle.

Gimenez made his return to the lineup Friday after suffering an ankle injury on Wednesday.

He was clearly in discomfort while going from first to third on a George Springer single.

Gimenez limped his way into the bag at third base.

He was replaced by Leo Jimenez during an Angels pitching change.

Gimenez initially hurt his ankle while taking a throw on a stolen base attempt by the Yankees when he jammed his ankle into the ground.

Davis Schneider started at second base Saturday in the second game of a three-game series.
