Maple Leafs holding annual outdoor practice on Jan. 27 at Etobicoke rink

The Maple Leafs are taking it back outside.

The Leafs announced on Wednesday that they will hold their annual outdoor practice on Jan. 27 at the Prince of Wales rink in the New Toronto neighbourhood of South Etobicoke.

“The outdoor practice has become a special tradition for our team and fans, bringing us closer to the communities that support us so passionately,” Leafs president Brendan Shanahan said in a statement. “There’s something magical about playing outdoors at local rinks, just as many of us did when we first fell in love with the game.

“For me, growing up in the neighbourhood, the Prince of Wales rink — with its view of the Toronto skyline and the howling winds off Lake Ontario — holds a special place in my heart. I hope this weekend’s events inspire the same joy and inspiration for the next generation in this community.”

Before the practice at 11 a.m. on Jan. 27, the Leafs will play host to a weekend of free activities at the park as part of the club’s commitment to celebrating local communities.

Viewing parties will be held for the Leafs game in Ottawa against the Senators on Jan. 25, as well as the PWHL game between the Toronto Sceptres and New York Sirens on the afternoon of the 25th.

An alumni game will be held on the afternoon of the 26th, with meet-and-greets involving former Leafs players.

Complimentary skate rentals will be available on Saturday, Sunday and Monday that weekend and there will be pop-up activations throughout the weekend.
