Windsor Assembly was idle this week and will remain down in the coming week due to President Donald Trump imposing 25 per cent tariffs on all vehicles coming into the U.S.

The two-week temporary layoff impacted about 3,500 workers at the plant and shut down the five main local feeder plants to Windsor Assembly. Those feeder plant shutdowns put over 1,250 employees on lay off.

Those five plants will also come back online to service Windsor Assembly, which produces the Pacifica, Grand Caravan, Voyager and Dodge Charger Daytona.

The company also closed down a Mexican plant that makes the Jeep Compass at the same time as Windsor Assembly. That plant was to be idle for the month of April and Stellantis has not announced any plans to alter that schedule.

The closures of the two plants led to 900 layoffs at five U.S. plants that supply the two Stellantis facilities.
